OSCAR franchisees Hugh and Julie Allam, from Woking in Surrey, say it took them three redundancies to finally decide that they should be working for themselves.
Mr Allam was familiar with the concept and benefits of franchising, having spent 16 years setting up and developing franchise networks for dairymen, which eventually led to yet another redundancy.
He said: “My connections with franchising put me in touch with the Oscar team early on. I appreciated that the benefits of a tried and tested system provided good grounds for starting a business and, with an excellent product that offered repeat business in a growing market, our thoughts about Oscar could not have been more positive.”
The couple launched their business in 2005.
“Our aim is to achieve a good income that will provide funds to support our retirement, and to enjoy ourselves, meet lots of people and their pets. We have at least another ten years employment ahead of us - without having to worry about redundancy.”
