After 21 years spent working as a senior engineering manager Andy Blackburn gave it all up to invest in an Ovenclean franchise.
Tired of management politics, not to mention working up to 80 hours a week, he welcomed the opportunity to get back to a practical, hands on business, but this time with the added benefit of being his own boss.
He said: “I still work hard and have been really busy since I launched the business last November - I cleaned 140 ovens in the run up to Christmas - but now I get to decide the hours I work and I see so much more of my family.”
His long term goal is to build a management franchise with two or three vehicles, but Mr Blackburn says his first priority is to continue developing his customer base and consolidate his business.
He added: “I’ve only been up and running a matter of months, and although things have been great, I feel I need to be operational for at least a year before I’m ready to expand. In the meantime, I’m feeling really positive about the future.”
