He opened his first in Barry, South Wales, while quickly earmarking potential sites for additional stores in the region.

His expansion plans extended into South West England, the Midlands and the north, where he acquired stores in Kidderminster and Doncaster. With one store opened already in 2010 and another planned for later in the year, he will be the first Cash Generator franchisee to reach 10 stores.

Mr Elwood said: “After opening my first store I soon realised that South Wales offered great potential for more outlets and I didn’t want to miss out. With six stores open I was able to self finance my expansion plans which meant I wasn’t reliant on a bank to raise capital.”

With store managers handling the day-to-day running of the stores, he invests his time in the strategic growth of his empire, and regularly takes time out to pursue his passions, including sailing his yacht and snowboarding.
