That was something that John Purves recognised while considering his next move when his job was under threat of redundancy.

He had spent 33 years working in sales, and although he didn’t feel confident about the future of his role, he was initially unsure about which direction to take.

“It was my brother-in-law, who was already a franchisee with Oscar in my neighbouring area, who not only sold me the food, but also sold me the idea of joining Oscar and working for myself,” he said.

Oscar provides a pet food home delivery and advice service and is a full member of the bfa. 

Mr Purves added: “Redundancy happens, and sometimes it can be for the better. When you think all is lost, don’t give up, because it could be your chance to enjoy a complete change of career and lifestyle.”
