REDUNDANCY proved to be the opportunity that Wilf Hallam needed to revive an earlier ambition to work for himself. 

With a house full of German shorthaired pointers, and an Oscar resale business becoming available in his area of Nottinghamshire, his future, he says, suddenly looked positive.

A former engineer Mr Hallam credits his career change to his wife and daughter.
He said: “We started with one dog and before we knew it we had ten. Surrounded by dogs, it seemed my future was already decided when I was made redundant. I’d always dreamt of owning my own business, but it wasn’t until I investigated franchising that I appreciated how much better the security and prospects would be.”

It was a visit to a franchise exhibition and a first time meeting with Oscar, the pet food delivery franchise, followed by the availability of resale franchise in his area that finally brought his plans to fruition. 

He added: “The process of taking on an existing Oscar business with a customer base already in place was straightforward, while the training and support and the quality of the product gave me all the confidence I needed.  At last I have my own business, and I'm enjoying every minute of it.”
